Happy Birthday Newton!

A little character exploration, animated blind using a NIkon DLSR in 2010, made with: cardboard, foil, acetate with glue to create the telescope lens, and a sandwich bag tie for the quill.
Isaac Newton was born when the calendar system changed from the Julian to the Gregorian, which means: he’s got 2 birthdays.

Centra – Live Every Day TV spot

Earlier on this year we were invited by Russell Curran Productions to produce an animated segment for this Centra spot. You can see our work at about the 20 second mark!

The animation was designed and created by Carol with lighting and technical supervision by Eimhin.

In this piece on our studio space at A4 Sounds, Carol can be seen working on an initial proof of concept too from about 3:20:

Many thanks to the Russell Curran team for bringing us in on the project:

The Bird & the Whale Teaser Trailer!

From writer & director Carol Freeman, comes a tale of a Bird and a Whale, who together struggle to survive, lost at sea.

Featuring an original score by Chris McLoughlin and produced by Jonathan Clarke, this oil paint on glass film will soon be beginning its travels in the big world outside the black=out curtains!

First up on its journey is the Galway Film Fleadh today: LINK

Below you can see a timelapse of the whales breaching:

The Bird and the Whale – Timelapse

Things have been a little quiet here, as animation is well underway on Carol‘s film The Bird and the Whale. To make up for it; above is a timelapse of a scene in progress from the film!

Painted by Caitlin Rooke, using 2D animation created by Kenneth Ladekjær

Enjoy!

Foróige ANI-Morph Workshop!

The Ark Event Guide Commission

We were recently asked to put together some illustration concepts for The Ark‘s upcoming event guide.

The main thrust was to create an image which showed stages in an action, or animation.
Here is what we cooked up for them:

A rough sketchy version

Design wise, Eimhin was influenced by Roman Muradov’s work for this piece. You can view Roman’s work here: http://www.bluebed.net/

A little rough animation using the above poses, showing them in situ

From here we provided another option, including animation drawings from Carol‘s film The Bird & the Whale:

Our first workshop is being hosted by PP’s Pádraig at the Ark as part of the Animation Art Show, with a more in depth series of workshops beginning in June and continuing into August which you can check out HERE, HERE, & HERE
We’ll be posting more information on those workshops once final details are all confirmed!
